Pets serve as children to many. In this era of globalization, older aged are left at home all alone when their sons and daughters travel around the world in pursuit of new pastures. In their absence, the aged consider the pets as their children, especially dogs.

The dog has been a companion to humans from ancient times.

Livestock animals such as cattle or fodders are often considered as an income source whereas pets like dogs, cats, birds, fishes are normally considered as a passion by the animal lovers.

There are also times when dogs are employed for security purposes but still they are considered as an extended family.

Taking care of a pet animal is a very interesting thing to do. Pets shower in a lot of love and trust in us. So it becomes our duty to take care of their health, which in turn will keep us healthy.

Ward off diseases and pests that attack them, grow them as obedient, clean them, and provide recommended vaccinations and regular check-ups include few important steps to be employed. Also, providing ample food sources to avoid constipation or diarrhoea is equally important.

A sort of healthy parenting has to be employed for pets. At times, this may require more care to be given to the pets than one’s children.

Let’s see what factors are to be considered to pet an animal at home.

• Keeping home and surrounding clean is the first and foremost step. When there’s a pet animal, it is very common to see animal furs on the floor, home appliances and clothes. So it’s necessary to regularly clean up the places where the pets move-in.
• Never allow the animal to excrete inside the house. Whenever one observes such a condition, clear the animal’s litter box and do keep a regular check on the same. A litter box is something that collects the pet excreta. It is placed within the home in case the pet is not allowed to roam freely outside the premises. 
• Most of the times, pets sleep inside the houses. So, it is very important to regularly clean up the places they occupy. This improves the pets’ health and the health of the inhabitants.
• Washing hands properly before and after taking care of the pets is also important.
• Handle the food for the pets with utmost care. Store them in clean utensils. Consider equal importance while dealing with human and pet foods.
• Pet utensils shall be properly cleaned. Ensure the pet fluids do not fall on the pets during pet care and in such cases ensure the pets are cleaned with soap solutions.
• Ensure pets are physically clean too. Look out for insects or pests dwelling on the animals and ward them off.
